The lesson “How My Family’s Genes Affect My Health and Future” is part 16 of a 46 part series on human development, the human body, health, and safety. This lesson teaches about the genetic ways people can inherit healthy traits or possibly unhealthy patterns of disease. This resource includes a lesson plan for the teacher on how to prepare beforehand, class-time content to facilitate learning, hands-on activities facilitating further learning, and a teacher assessment at the end. This lesson is designed for a group of young children between the ages of 9 and 11, and is the sixteenth physical development lesson in the Core Curriculum, 9-11 years, Year One.
