The lesson “Respecting and Helping People with Disabilities” is part four of a 46 part series on human development, the human body, health, and safety. This lesson teaches children to have a respectful attitude towards and empathy for disabled people. This resource includes a lesson plan for the teacher on how to prepare beforehand, class-time content to facilitate learning, hands-on activities facilitating further learning, and a teacher assessment at the end. It also suggests a guest speaker who is disabled or who works with disabled people as an alternative activity. This lesson is designed for a group of young children between the ages of 6 and 8, and is the fourth physical development lesson in the Core Curriculum, 6-8 years, Year Two.
